Week 7
Feb. 21 * * *
TOPIC: Video capture in the IML (Weimer room 3219). Professor McAdams will be out of town today, but it is ESSENTIAL that you show up on time in the IML with your finished tape in your hand.
- You will turn in all of the equipment, including cameras, to Gary Ritzenthaler in the IML at this time (before 2:45 p.m.). ALL EQUIPMENT must be turned to Gary before you leave the IML today.
- Make a LOG of your video. This is also called a shot list. (See template: MS Word doc, 57 KB.) Some people log in Excel; some log on paper. See the RESOURCES listed below.
READ: Chapter 3.2b: Import — DV Cam (Tape) -- WATCH the tutorial video BEFORE you come to class, and TAKE NOTES
DUE at 11:45 a.m.: Shooting 2* (see assignment)
* Your tape must be handed in to Gary before you leave the IML today! This tape will be graded as your Shooting 2 assignment. Make sure your NAME is on the tape and the case! Don't ask for extra time with the gear. This tape is DUE TODAY.
Notes * * *
Please arrive ON TIME in the IML, at 11:45 a.m.
You will capture ALL* of your Shooting 2 video, using WMM, in the IML, today.
* I do not mean you must capture all that you shot. I mean that you will capture all that you will want to USE in your editing. You should not capture the bad bits.
Make your log during the time you have for class. It will be time consuming.
Someone with WMM experience will be in the lab to help you (Lauren Hertel, of our college's Telecom faculty, has agreed to help you out from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m., but you'll be on your own after that).
If you need to be someplace else at 2:45 p.m. today, then negotiate with your equipment partner so that you can capture first. Some of you may have shot a LOT of minutes this time -- thus capturing may take much longer than the first time.
Gary must leave about 4:30 p.m.
Please see the tutorial about capturing clips instead of the full tape in WMM. If you have more than 15 minutes of tape, this method of capturing will be much, MUCH more efficient.
If Dave Carlson's students are in the IML, they have priority over you. Four computers will be in use by our class for the video capture. The other four students must not monopolize IML computers if Professor Carlson's students need to use them. So, exchange phone numbers with your equipment partner and leave the IML if necessary -- but please use your time efficiently and be mindful that others have work to do too.
