What would this conversation include if it took place not in 1991 but in 2008? What would Paglia say to a younger person -- what if the generational divide between the two speakers hinged not on World War II but instead on the Vietnam War? Would an intellectual born about 1975 have a different argument than either one of these? Does a person born about 1985 have a different relationship to television than either Postman or Paglia? Does your generation agree that the schools should "stress the highest intellectual values and ideals of the Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian traditions"? If not, then what is education for? Are textbooks irrelevant?
