Designer uses of typography like the two at left require the designer to create the heading or styled link text in Photoshop (or a similar program) and then "Save for Web" -- usually in the GIF format (for sharpness), but sometimes in the JPG format.

Using images in place of HTML text for typography in this way has been declining in popularity for a year or two. This is happening largely due to the growing adoption of CSS and the drive toward consistent Web standards in page and site design.
