Students in this course will complete a significant online media project in one semester. Each student will conceive and plan his or her own individual project. Project ideas will not be provided by the instructor.

All students will learn Flash MX 2004, including:

  • Drawing tools
  • Animation
  • Buttons and scripting
  • Sound
  • Photographs and slideshows
  • Video in Flash (not shooting or editing video)

Not all projects will be executed entirely in Flash, but every project should include some Flash content, e.g. video in Flash.

Objectives

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Plan an online media project using design documents and storyboards.
  • Analyze a good screen or page design and explain what makes it good.
  • Create a paper prototype of the project and test it on several people.
  • Revise designs on paper based on feedback from test subjects.
  • Specify typefaces, colors and screen layouts for the entire project before starting production.
  • List and evaluate assets and features needed before starting production.
  • Complete an online media project on deadline by following the design document.

Students will also be able to:

  • Create a Flash project.
  • Put video into Flash.
  • Use and control audio in Flash.
  • Use photos effectively in Flash.
